PARVO

By simply keeping your dog current on its DHP vaccine, PARVO can be avoided. A puppy will need a series of 3 DHP vaccines, scheduled 3 weeks apart. Adult dogs need the vaccine at 1 year of age, and again every 3 years after. Vaccines are not expensive, yet many people do not understand that these vaccines can save their puppies’ lives.

Many PARVO positive puppies enter the shelter, and due to the contagious nature of the virus, the shelter will not keep a PARVO infected dog overnight. They will simply euthanize the dog. Thankfully, some shelters will reach out to rescues to see if someone can rescue the puppy before they euthanize, but many times rescues are only given a few hours to put a plan in place. And if that wasn’t hard enough, the cost to vet a PARVO puppy ranges anywhere from $1,500 to $2,500 PER DOG!

Lovebugs Rescue is committed to saving PARVO puppies from the shelter. Our program has saved numerous PARVO positive puppies since 2012. We think they are worth every penny spent!

If you would like to foster a PARVO puppy, please complete our foster application. Any dogs in the household will need to be current on their DHP vaccine and at least 1 year of age. Cats are not affected. Fostering a PARVO puppy is usually a short-term commitment. On average, about 2 to 4 weeks time.
